June 21 - More cabinets

First things first. . . the cabinets! All assembled, waiting for installation!

Now the fun ~ Happy Father's Day Omp!! We love you!

What's this? A bag for kids???!!!

How's this for a tote?? It holds an Emma!

Look at all that flooring!

Sneak peak at what's to come. . . cork on one side, wood on the other! Which counter should we choose?

Still can't decide on the counter material. These seem too light.

These seem too dark.

June 13 - cabinets are in

Just playing house. . . Nap time at the cabin means a house made of boxes, floor padding & a few special blankies.

Time to put together some cabinets! Sunnywood ~ Cambrian style from Ace. Of course.

Don't forget about a house for big sis!

June 10 update

The light fixtures are in! Too bad they have to come down so the exterior can be painted.

This is the bathroom fixure. . . they'll both be the same. And yes, those are the wrong light bulbs - but that's an easy fix.

What a mess! Lets clean this place up!

This is the 650 sq ft of wood floor that Melissa moved by herself! All 2100 lbs of it. . . 30 boxes!

Such hard workers! Many hands make light work. Even if some of the hands are only two years old.

This is the bathroom faucet. . . just like a water pump!

Kitchen cabinets before (stay tuned for the after shots!)

Climbing the ladder to the attic. . .

What! That's construction dust on your nose Em!

You too AA! You've leaned too close to a piece of sheet rock!
And an update on the outdoors. . . .

Despite all the earth moving. . . I have flowers in the meadow! Here's a lupine

And a wild rose plant. . . no blooms, but maybe next year.

We're ready to go home now Omp. No more photos please!

Back to work!!

Spring is here. . .the snow has melted & we're back at work on the cabin! Grandma Dona celebrated her 80th Birthday on Thursday. Here are Grandad Keith, Grandma Dona, Auntie Gay, Mom (Grandma Jill) and Uncle Jeff. And we continued the party with a picnic lunch on Saturday. This is Grandma's sister Donella & her husband Karl, along with Mom & Grandad Keith. (That's the neighbor's place in the background - we still haven't moved the picnic table back to the meadow.)

The sheet rock is done, the paint is completed on the inside, the wiring is waiting for fixtures to be installed. The exterior will be painted within the next week or two. Water will soon be hooked up. Flooring still needs to be ordered, but the cabinets are on their way.The off-white color turned out perfectly! The ceiling is the same color but with a flat finish it looks different. I love how the windows & natural light make it look different colors!
Ooops - we found some mistakes that weren't caught earlier! The closet doors were all framed in at 75" instead of 80." It doesn't seem like a big deal, but all the windows & doors line up on the same "line" - that is until you come to the closets.

How about this one. . . the door to the bedroom wasn't framed at all! How on earth did Dad & I miss that? Who knows but thank goodness Brad figured it out.

Pre-Christmas Update

Dec 20th - Lots of snow now!

The deck has a railing! Not that you can really see it with all the snow!

Can you see how deep this is? There must be a good 6+ inches!

Frost inside the windows. . . its very pretty. Enjoy this photo because soon this cabin will be all closed up & there won't be frost on the inside!

Ava standing by the front door - with the new door knob!!

Nice thing about working in the winter is the cabin is a giant freezer - no need for the guys to take their hamburger home. I did close up the package for them - you never know who else is hungry up there!

Not a whole lot went on between Dec 20th & today. The electrician was finishing up the rough-in. There may be insulation going in the walls & sheet rock being hung but I don't remember when they were going to start. We're just about finished for the season.

Cabin ~ Dec 10-13. 2008 ~ First Snow!!

So I had to make a quick run up to the cabin on Wed & Thurs. Lucky for me, I didn't have to go Friday too! Ava came both days & was NOT happy about being in the backpack. She tolerated it well but I wouldn't have called her happy.

Wed we saw the siding going up! Along with the shingles.

The debris pile was going away!! They brought in some big trucks & big equipment to do the job. I'm glad Dad hired it out. It was just too much for him to tackle on his own. When I was there the guy said it had been 2 loads of each truck & 2 of the trailer - 6 loads! And they weren't even done!

SNOWY SATURDAY!!! The first snow of the year! We found a cute little snowman on the deck built by one of the construction guys.

The siding is done & ready for paint. The shingles will need to be painted this year, the siding can wait until spring. I'm working on colors - dark brown for the body & lambswool (a neutral) to match the window framing for the trim & possibly shingles. I had thought it should all be dark brown but have since changed my mind.
The roof was going up while we were there - its color is MUCH better than I'd thought it would be. Dad did a good job picking it. I was leaning towards a darker green, but this one looks great.
The electrician was out on Thurs & Friday - he'd gotten a lot of work done! We now have a meter. . .
Lighting boxes for the light fixtures & fans - this is the chandelier & ceiling fan that will hang in the living area.
The can lights for the kitchen - Dad was surprised it takes so many. Wait till he sees what will happen in the basement storage!

Electrical boxes are in and so are the vents for the heating system!
Here's our fabulous new furnace! What a luxury to have central heat - it will really beat those old baseboards. All Season's has done a great job!

A quick look at the rest of the storage - lots of duct work siting around, the locks for the doors, & just general stuff needed for construction.
